Tourism plays a significant role in India’s economic landscape, contributing 6.23% to the national GDP and supporting 8.78% of the country’s total employment, with approximately 20 million people engaged in the industry. In 2017, the overall impact of Travel & Tourism on employment, considering indirect support, accounted for 8.0% of total employment, equivalent to 41,622,500 jobs. Forecasts indicate a 3.1% increase in 2018, reaching 42,898,000 jobs, and a continued upward trajectory, expecting 52,279,000 jobs in 2028, constituting 8.4% of total employment.
The broad title of the Erasmus+ Capacity Building Project in Higher Education is entitled as “Advancing Sustainability and Technology in Tourism, Hospitality, and Services Studies through Strategic Industry Partnership (SIPAS)”. This project aims to develop various course modules, delivery mechanisms, integration of information and communication technology in the teaching-learning, collaboration opportunities between industry and academia, administrative governance ecosystem and modus operandi for project administration.
The projects objectives align with the priorities of the call by fostering innovation in higher education institutions in India, specifically targeting the labour market and societal needs through the development of four cutting-edge study modules and teaching methods in sustainable tourism, hospitality and services management, while also enhancing the capacity and international networking of higher education institutions (HEI) in India, Latvia and Portugal.
